Kelda’s Air-Powered™ technology installed in Vistry’s Innovation Centre

The Vistry Group has specified Kelda’s Deluxe Shower Panel with eHandset in their Innovation Centre.

The Vistry Innovation Centre (VIC) is a unique facility, housing the cutting edge technologies that The Vistry Group has developed and is working on to ensure they’re evolving to meet the needs of homeowners, the drive towards energy efficiency and changing climate.

Being made from a timber frame, the VIC is a full sized house located in the East Midlands. Vistry plans to use the site as an educational piece for the industry, showcasing the innovations needed for housebuilders to meet future home standards.

The VIC is a unique, sector-leading facility with cutting edge technologies that are set to be used in future homes as the housebuilding sector heads towards Net Zero.

Kelda’s Air-Powered™ technology has been verified to use 55% less water per year than a conventional mixer shower, also using 2,200 less kWh of energy per year.

A typical home could cut their carbon emissions by approximately 630kgCO² (11%) by installing a Kelda Air-Powered™ Shower instead of a conventional mixer shower, hence why Kelda’s Deluxe Shower Panel with eHandset was specified in VIC.

Conventional aerating mixer showers use the Venturi principle to restrict flow and draw atmospheric air into the water through a small hole in the shower head. This is a cheap way to reduce the mass flow of water, and aerate it to change the ‘feel’ of the shower, but has no measurable boost in force or performance, regardless of flow rate.

In contrast, Kelda’s patented Air-Powered™ showers use the principles of fuel injection technology. Each shower features an intelligent microprocessor and powerful digital fan which controls the delivery of water and air to the showerhead.

A Kelda Shower also allows the specification of a smaller hot water cylinder, a key consideration when using heat pumps to heat hot water, where 200+ litre capacity is now commonplace.

Our patented Air-Powered™ technology is drawn from over a decade of research and development. Water is injected into a high velocity air stream where it is broken up into 100s of MACRO droplets that are 2.5X the size of a standard shower. This makes less water feel like so much more, meaning the significant reduction in water and energy consumption isn’t at the expense of user experience.

Kelda’s Deluxe Shower Panel has been installed at a flow rate of 5 litres per minute (l/pm), with conventional mixer showers using 10 l/pm. Request a Quote if you have an upcoming project that requires a low carbon, low utility cost shower solution.
